Ok - quick random rant about the bathrooms here, or as they like to call it "toilets". Don't you think restroom or even bathroom sounds so much better than toilet? To me toilet seems so, gross almost. I mean, why do you have to name the item that you are about to go and use? It leads one to paint a not-so-nice picture in their head.
Also, what is up with the whole double door thing here? You go to the "toilet" and you go through the first door and enter the world's smallest (and most pointless) room in which you have to open another door before you actually reach the toilets. I asked a friend of mine and he suggested that that little room was perhaps a smell-trapping chamber. Gross thought, but interesting.

I totally know what you mean!!!! My friend was travelling with a Scottish guy a few years ago in New Zealand and he spent countless hours mocking the American way of calling 'toilets' by a nicer name, and citing a scene in Trainspotting (when an American enters a bar, asks the junkies where the bathroom is located, and proceeds to get beaten up and robbed) as evidence of our supposed ignorance. I agree with you, Jenn, 'toilets' does sound gross. Maybe that's why they also use the word 'loo'?
